Exhibitions in the Gallery

Join us on the second floor of Devon House in the Craft Council Gallery for two new exhibitions running until September 23, 2017.

August 26 - September 23, 2017

Caroline Clarke and Jennifer Morgan incorporate the passing nature of Newfoundland's landscape, culture, and even some firmly held ideas in their collaborative show "Ephemera." During a weekend in Port Union, playing with the Sit William F. Coaker Foundation's presses, the two artists and their friend Fionn Shea created letterpress posters showing contrasting ideas. Even dictionary definitions have an ephemeral quality in this show that both challenges and celebrates all things to do with the graphic arts.

This exhibition deals with artifact and thought, and their shifting presence in contemporary society. Things we think of as permanent become transitive in this installation. Landscapes, objects, and ideas mix with other ephemera in Jennifer Morgan and Caroline Clarke's prints and three-dimensional artifacts.
Letterpress demonstrations by Jennifer Morgan during the opening and August 26, 10-4:30.
This is Judy
August 26 - September 23, 2017
This is Judy is a collection of hooked mats by Nova Scotia based artist Laura Kenney. In this series of work we see the familiar iconology of the Maritimes -  buoys, and lighthouses... but, with a twist.  Kenney uses the narrative tradition of the hooked mat to tell the story of Judy, a fictional character, and her relationship with these symbols of her culture and with her struggle to fit into modern day life.
