LAST WEEK FOR TWO GALLERY EXHIBITIONS
You are invited to the Opening Reception for two new exhibitions. In My Nature and All Kinds of Love will open on Saturday, February 7, from 2 – 4 pm at theCraft Council Gallery, Devon House Craft Centre, 59 Duckworth Street. Artists will be present and refreshments served. Everyone is welcome.
In My Nature is a solo show by Deborah Dumka that explores the connection between textiles and nature by incorporating the viewer through interactive, multi-sensory experiences.
Using textures, video projections and ambient sounds, viewers are immersed in the world of Dumka’s textiles. Noted for her skillful felt work, she marries colour and form into sensual and functional works of art. In this exhibition Deborah Dumka explores our relationship to Nature through an invitation to interact with felted textile work. You may experience the surprise of a pebble pushing into the sole of your foot as you walk across a carpet beach, drift into relaxation to shoreline sounds as you lay upon the felt stones of PebbleMat, meander a path between the ocean edge and forest with a walking stick and soundscapes, linger with your own memories of awakenings as you view the video animated work White Noise. Drawing on her past as an engineer, Dumka incorporates animating electronics into her felted textile work that challenges us to invite the natural world into our urban day to day living. Exhibit continues until March 7.
In the Annex Gallery is All Kinds of Love. A group exhibition that celebrates all kinds of love - warm hugs and cold winds, puppy love and heart break, icy white and passionate red. You’ll find treasures to purchase for a loved one or because you love it.
