Visits to the Gallery and participation in related programming provide opportunities to look at craft objects, to understand the methods and materials used, to discover the reasons why craftspeople make objects, and to learn about craftspeople in the community. Research and documentation of traditional and contemporary craft provide a vital resource for the understanding and appreciation of craft and its makers.
Through its individual attention to exhibitors, the Gallery fulfils a special role in the professional development of artists producing contemporary work. Exhibitions from away, artist presentations and workshops, as well as individual support and promotion, provide professional development for craftspeople and connections with the larger cultural community. Solo, group and curated exhibits have encouraged artists and the community to view craft as a means for the exploration of ideas and for understanding ourselves and the world.
