Bonnie Leyton

Bonnie Leyton's work is a celebration of life. Her clay sculptures are intimate explorations of memory and experience... of stories handed down, and of tales yet to be told. They invite viewers to participate. As Leyton has said, "I enjoy the thought of people choosing to touch my work; to open the boxes, move the pieces, create new scenes, redesign what has already been and experiment with what might be."

"Although my starting point in a piece of work is often clay, I feel free to use a variety of materials to accomplish my goals. I do not feel restricted to the conventional use of materials. I love the combination of sculpture and vessel, or the using of a clay form as a canvas."

Leyton started her training in England at the Putney School of Art and has also studied in Ontario. After her apprenticeship with master potter Peter Thomas, she continued to study art at Memorial University of Newfoundland's Department of Continuing Studies.

Her current work includes wheel-thrown production pottery, wheel-thrown and altered works, and her well known hand-built sculptural pieces. She is represented in private and public collections across Canada, and she has shown both regionally and nationally in group and solo exhibitions.
