FINE CRAFT & DESIGN FAIR
The Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador will launch its annual Fine Craft and Design Fair on November 4 at its new venue, the St. John's Arts and Culture Centre.

This is the 36th season for this Craft Council event, and craft makers and appreciators across the province have been watching for the opening date with much anticipation.

A new format means that the Craft Council will have 10 full days to provide visitors with the ultimate shopping experience.

Fair Dates:
Wednesday November 4 to Sunday November 8 and Wednesday November 11 to Sunday November 15
Hours: Wednesday, 4-10; Thursday - Saturday 10-10, Sunday 10-6

FAIR INFORMATION

Features this year:
  • Lots of FREE parking
  • In house restaurant service brought to you by Red Oak Catering
  • Entrance fee is removed
  • Craft Council partners with CBC to promote donations to the Community Food Sharing Association for their annual Turkey Drive Exhibitors from all over the province, including Labrador, with visiting exhibitors from outside the province, too.
  • Kids' Corral for children under 8, supervised by Kids@MUN
  • On Saturday, November 7, local storyteller, Mary Fearon will bring the Storytelling Festival to us and La Rose des Vents, the choir of the Francophone Association/la chorale de l'Association communautaire francophone, will be performing on November 8th
There are demonstrations throughout the Fair, including:
  • Margaret Angel: rug hooking on a floor frame
  • Peter Sobol: painting using water-based oils
  • Bonnie Johnstone: needle felting
  • Isabella St. John: making clay pots on the potters wheel
  • Bela Simo: multi-media sculpture demonstration
  • Tara Bryan: making altered books, including demonstrating how pop-up books are made
  • Linda Lewis: carding & spinning fibre from her own farm animals - sheep, angora goats (mohair) and llamas
New Location: Arts & Culture Centre
The Fine Craft & Design Fair will be set up in the gallery rooms on the second and third floor of the Arts & Culture Centre, as well as in the lobby outside the theatre.

The Arts & Culture Centre is fully accessible. Elevators to all floors are available.

Parking
  • The Arts & Culture Centre has on-site parking for approximately 440 vehicles.
  • Overflow parking is available nearby on Strawberry Marsh Road at the Department of Fisheries; some parking is also available at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
  • There will be lots of signs to clearly indicate parking areas.
  • All parking is FREE!

Public Transit
The Arts & Culture Centre is accessible by Metrobus routes: 1, 2, 5, 9, 10, 14, and 15.


Admission
New for 2009: No admissions fee!
Bring along a donation (a food or money) for the Community Food Sharing Association, as we join with our media partner CBC in its Christmas Turkey Drive.


SHOW FEATURES
  • On-site catering. Red Oak Catering will offer fresh, healthy, reasonably priced food available during both shows. Bar services will also be available evenings..
  • ATM machine on site. Credit card and debit services available.
