Welcome Interim Gallery Directors!

We are excited to announce the interim appointment of our new Gallery Director Kailey Bryan, and our new Assistant Director Bruno Vinhas. While previous director Sharon LeRiche enjoys a well-deserved year of family, relaxation, and other pursuits, these two will bring their combined passion for craft, community, and visual culture to our beautiful space.

Kailey Bryan is an award-winning visual artist with a passion for craft. Kailey relocated to St. John’s in 2012 after completing a BFA in Sculptural Studio Practice at York University in Toronto. Since arriving, Kailey has enjoyed three and a half years as Program Coordinator the Anna Templeton Centre for Craft, Art & Design, and nearly five years as a volunteer committee and board member with Eastern Edge Gallery. Kailey is a visual artist and craftsperson who has exhibited nationally and internationally, marrying the meticulousness and meditative qualities of weaving with the conceptual rigour of contemporary installation art. Kailey is thrilled to have this opportunity to create engaging programming for the Craft Council Gallery that encourages experimentation while honouring traditions of quality and excellence.

Brazilian by birth, Bruno Vinhas is passionate about global craft culture. A degree in Tourism and Hospitality has provided Bruno the experience of living in multiple countries and being immersed in different cultures changed his perspective about art and craft. Bruno graduated the CNA Textiles: Craft & Apparel Design program in 2016, and was the recipient of the Colleges and Institutes Canada 2016 ArtShowcase Award, the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador 2016, Anna Templeton Award 2016 and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador's Centenary of Responsible Scholarship 2017 and graduate with honors. Bruno sees life in a different way; artistically translates how his mind captures patterns and textures of everyday life. Bruno's work ranges from textile art installations to intricate apparel design. His sensitivity to his craft allows him to push materials to their limits, without forcing beyond integrity.

Kailey & Bruno, alongside the Craft Council Gallery committee and team of amazing volunteers will be working hard to bring you a year of exciting programming and exceptional craft!
